ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior
Colleen Gawkins tallied her third goal of the season on Thursday night, but Navy used a pair of goals inside the first 15 minutes to hand James Madison a 2-1 loss in non-conference women's soccer action at Glenn Warner Facility. The loss dropped the Dukes to 4-3 on the year, while Navy improved to 5-3.

The Dukes outshot Navy on the evening, 15-10, including a dominant 13-5 margin in the second half, but the Mids scored on each of their first two shots and held off a furious charge from JMU. Gawkins notched a match-high four shots on the evening, while five other Dukes picked up two each.

3' | The Mids opened the scoring after just 2:21 of play, when Meghan Hegarty picked off a pass in the midfield and played a through ball into Clare Macadam, who buried a 15-yard shot to the far post to put Navy up, 1-0.
14' | Ash Fairow doubled Navy's lead shortly after, running onto a long ball from Baseley McClaskey and finishing 1-on-1 to put the Dukes in a 2-0 hole.

65' | Gawkins halved the deficit just past the hour mark, after junior
Carmen Thomas pushed into the attacking third and found her at the top of the box with a pass. Gawkins fought through a defender and buried her third goal of the season to cut things to 2-1.

MATCH NOTES
- Thursday's contest marked the fifth time in the Dukes' first seven games that JMU has outshot its opponent. The Dukes have now tallied 103 shots to their opponents' 63 on the year.

Olivia Miller made two saves in the loss, while Sydney Forston of Navy made four to preserve the Mids' victory.
