WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William & Mary's Matt Milon hit a three-pointer from the right wing with 4.7 seconds left to force overtime on Thursday night, allowing the Tribe to hand James Madison an 89-82 loss in Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball action at Kaplan Arena.
The Dukes (4-14, 0-5 CAA) flew out of the gates against the first-place Tribe (12-4, 5-0 CAA), building a 20-point lead in the opening half and keeping W&M to just 28 points before the break. However, the Tribe hit seven of their final eight field goals in regulation to complete a wild comeback before tipping the Dukes in the extra period.
Freshman guard
Matt Lewis powered the Dukes on the evening, scoring 19 of his game-high 22 points in the first half, while adding four assists and a steal across 43 minutes. Fellow freshman
Darius Banks put together one of his best performances at JMU, racking up 17 points on just 10 shots and adding six boards, two assists, two steals and a block on the evening.
Juniors
Stuckey Mosley and
Develle Phillips joined the pair in double figures, with Mosley notching his 17th double-digit evening of the year with 11 points and Phillips adding 12 points, five rebounds and two blocks.
JMU led by as much as 17 with 9:40 to play, but made just two field goals before the end of regulation as the Tribe chipped away. In addition to hitting seven of eight from the field across the last five minutes, W&M hit seven of its eight free throws. In all, the Tribe went 33-of-36 (91.7 percent) from the line on the evening.
In overtime, the teams traded leads four times before the Tribe pulled away in the final 30 seconds after going a perfect 10-of-10 from the line in the extra period.

The Dukes will return home for the first time in two weeks on Saturday, Jan. 13, when they welcome Delaware to the Convocation Center for a 4 p.m. contest. On Thursday, the Blue Hens closed a three-game homestand with a 72-66 win over Drexel to improve to 10-8 (3-2 CAA) on the season.
