HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Hofstra junior Justin Wright-Foreman hit a three-pointer to force overtime with 1.1 seconds left on Friday night before the Pride handed James Madison a heartbreaking 87-81 loss in Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball action at the Mack Sports Complex.
Wright-Foreman, the leading scorer in the conference, ran off a series of screens with less than four seconds left and drilled a fadeaway three from the left wing to turn a 72-69 JMU lead into a tie game before the Pride outscored the Dukes by a 15-9 margin in the final period.
Junior
Stuckey Mosley turned in the best night of his prodigious JMU career, erupting for 37 points with the help of nine three-pointers, matching the JMU program record. Julius Wells was the most recent of three others to hit the mark, hitting nine of his 11 attempts against Northeastern on Jan. 3, 2011. Mosley also added a career-high six steals, three rebounds and three assists to his record scoring night.
Freshman
Matt Lewis led three others in double figures with 14 points to go with five boards and three assists. Junior
Develle Phillips added 12 points and seven boards across 27 minutes, while freshman
Darius Banks chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.
The Dukes held the potent Hofstra offense in check for much of the contest, forcing 11 turnovers in the first half to take a 33-32 lead at the break. In the second half, neither team led by more than seven in a back-and-forth contest.
After a pair of Mosley free throws with under six seconds left, Wright-Foreman drilled his third three-pointer of the contest to force the extra period. The Dukes took an early 74-72 lead on two free throws from Phillips, but Hofstra went back ahead immediately on a three-pointer and eventually took a 79-77 lead with 1:41 left that they would not relinquish.
