REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Junior
Lauren Comegys tied for the second-lowest round in the field on Sunday, leading the way as the James Madison women's golf team moved up to eighth to close out the UD Lady Blue Hen Invitational, hosted by Delaware at the par-71, 5,932-yard Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
Facing heavy winds and inclement weather throughout the round, Comegys carded a 1-over 73 that included four birdies, vaulting her way up the 71-player leaderboard to finish tied for fifth, her second top-five finish in four events this year and the third of her career.
Against the elements, the Dukes climbed a spot among the 13-team field, finishing in sole possession of eighth at 925, just three strokes behind seventh-place Bucknell.
Senior
Katie Turk carded a 78 (+7) on Sunday, wrapping up the weekend in a tie for 46th, while freshman
Kate Owens (80-73-82) tied for 39th. Juniors
Morgan Cox (79-72-87) and
Joanna Keck (77-75-88) closed out the JMU scoring on the weekend finishing in ties for 46th and 51st.
QUOTING COACH BAKER
"The number may not have been what we wanted, but I'm proud of the way we battled through some terrible weather conditions to move up the leaderboard a little bit. We know we have some things to polish up before wrapping up the fall season in a couple weeks, so we're excited to get back and get to work."
UP NEXT
The Dukes will wrap up their fall season on Nov. 5-6, when they travel to Idle Hour Country Club in Macon, Ga. to take part in the 2018 Idle Hour Collegiate Championship.
