HARRISONBURG, Va. – In James Madison field hockey's final regular season game of the season, they fell 5-4 (OT) to William & Mary. The Dukes earned the fourth and final spot in the CAA Tournament that is set to begin next Friday.
James Madison (6-11, 2-4) outshot the Tribe (9-7, 5-1) 10-4 in the opening frame including three corners in the first five minutes to play, but the William & Mary defense held strong and kept the game scoreless early. JMU was able to tie the game 2-2 right before halftime.
The Tribe and Dukes went back-and-forth on goals in the second half with both teams fighting in their final game of the regular season. At the end of regulation, the two teams would remain tied 4-4 and head to overtime.
William & Mary started the extra time with a penalty corner and
Caitlin Nelson coming up with a huge save, but the Tribe would continue to fight and would get a second penalty corner where they scored four minutes into the overtime period for the 5-4 win.

- This was the Dukes first overtime game of the season and first since August 30, 2017, against Old Dominion
- Mayer tallied her fourth multi-point game in her career, with her last coming against Richmond (9/28)

- De Rooij has now scored in three of the last five games; tallying four goals in those five games
- This marks the fifth straight year the Dukes have qualified for the CAA Tournament
