HARRISONBURG, Va. – Former James Madison attacker
Katie Kerrigan ('19) was selected in the 2018 Women's Professional Lacrosse League Fall Draft Monday night, being taken as the No. 13 overall pick by the Upstate Pride.
Â
The draft consisted of only post-collegiate players, and teams will have the opportunity to draft five players each in the spring's 2019 College Draft.
Â
Kerrigan was a two-time All-CAA Second Team selection and finished her JMU career as one of the leading assisters. She set the program's single-season record with 60 assists in 2018 and wrapped up her three-year career ranking third all-time, with 107 helpers.
Â
A two-year starter, Kerrigan tallied 138 career points off 31 goals and 107 assists. She had a single-season personal record of 71 points as a senior, adding 11 goals. Kerrigan also notched 19 goals in 2017. She led the conference in assists per game as a senior and was second as a junior.
Â
Kerrigan also excelled off the field, as she was named a JMU Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete and earned a spot on the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. She graduated from JMU in May 2019 with a bachelor's degree in communication studies.
Â
She is the third JMU player to be selected by the WPLL, which had its inaugural season in 2018.
Kristen Gaudian was the 12th pick in the 2018 college draft, while
Elena Romesburg was taken 16th by Upstate.
