HARRISONBURG, Va. – Securing its ninth sweep of the 2018 season, James Madison volleyball topped Colonial Athletic Association foe Elon, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-20), Sunday afternoon in Sinclair Gym for Senior Day.
The Dukes (20-5, 12-2 CAA) honored five senior student-athletes –
Taylor Gail, Amy Gottschling, Jacqui Koebel, Bryn Recker and
Tilbe Yaglioglu – after downing the Phoenix (13-13, 4-10 CAA) for their 20th overall victory of the season.
Redshirt junior
Kelly Vahos and Recker led the match with 11 kills apiece. With 30 assists, junior
Sarah Martin led the match while junior
Sarah Driscoll notched a match-leading 17 digs. Junior
M'Kaela White posted a match-high five blocks.
MATCH NOTES
- JMU retains its perfect record against Elon and holds a 12-0 advantage in the all-time series.
- This is the fourth consecutive season in which the Dukes have recorded 20 or more wins.
- Three Dukes hit above .300: White (.368), Vahos (.333) and Recker (.231). White had no attack errors on the match.

Liv Crawley earned a new season high of eight kills and a career-high four blocks.
- With three digs, Gottschling produced a new season high in her first start of the season.
- The Dukes produced 10 total blocks – six more than the Phoenix.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- JMU began set one with a slim advantage which they held until the end, though their set point was thwarted once by Elon.
- The Phoenix began the second set on top but the Dukes tied the score at 7-all. Elon then knotted the set at 12-12, but JMU jumped out ahead to take a two-set lead in the match.
- Determined after dropping the first two frames, the Phoenix quickly pulled ahead by four. Following three separate ties, the Dukes took a solid lead after a six-point run, which included kills from Recker, Vahos and Gail and two Elon errors, and the Phoenix could not recover.

The Dukes hit the road one last time during the regular season, traveling to Towson for a midweek bout on Wednesday, Nov. 7 for a 7 p.m. start time.
