James Madison opens up its 2018-2019 campaign as it welcomes George Washington to the Convocation center on Thursday, Nov. 8 for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
Receiving seven first-place votes, the Dukes were the preseason favorites to bring home the Colonial Athletic Association title while earning a spot in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll at No. 12.
Junior guard Kamiah Smalls was named the Preseason CAA Player of the Year after averaging 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in her sophomore season.
Smalls and junior Lexie Barrier were named to the Preseason All-CAA First Team while redshirt junior Kelly Koshuta earned Second Team honors.
JMU and George Washington are set to meet for the 11th time in program history as the Dukes lead the all-time series 7-3 while going a perfect 4-0 at home.
The programs last met on Nov. 27, 2007 in the Convocation Center, resulting in a 25-point victory for the Dukes as they defeated the Colonials 80-55.
Chosen to finish third in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, the Colonials are coming off their seventh A-10 championship in 2017-2018 and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four years.
GW returns five letterwinners from last year's team and has eight newcomers. Seniors Mei-Lyn Bautista and Kelsi Mahoney are the only two players for the Colonials that have more than one year of experience at the collegiate level.
