HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison scored four late runs in the fifth and eighth innings combined to slip past St. Bonaventure, 9-5 in non-conference baseball action at Eagle Field on Saturday evening.
Â
The Dukes (10-5) tallied 12 hits on the evening, marking their third consecutive outing with 10 or more hits, while the Bonnies (2-8) used six hits to score their five runs.
Â
Freshman
Conor Hartigan led the way for the Dukes at the plate, going 2-for-3 which included a grand slam in the first inning and a ground-rule double in the eighth inning. Hartigan also tallied a walk and scored two runs in the game. Senior
Tanner Dofflemyer racked up his first multi-hit game of the season with a 2-for-4 outing and a RBI.
Â
Junior
Dan Goggin improved to 3-1 on the season by tossing five innings, striking out three batters. Freshman
Nick Robertson came in for relief of Goggin and threw a career-high three innings of scoreless baseball, retiring all nine he faced.
Â
The Dukes stormed out to a quick 4-0 lead after Hartigan's grand slam, the second by the Dukes in as many games. St. Bonaventure added a run in the fourth inning and tied the game in the top half of the fifth at five, off a three-run home run from junior Brandon Henshaw, just two batters after freshman Daniel Stauffer drove in a run off a double.
Â
JMU answered in the bottom half of the fifth, scoring on an error to take a 6-5 lead. In the eighth, sophomore
Matt Dipasupil, Dofflemyer and senior
Mike Sciorra all hit RBI-singles, leading to the final score, 9-5.

QUOTING COACH IKE
"I was really excited about how we began the game with getting runners on base and then Hartigan hitting a grand slam to break things open early. Give credit to St. Bonaventure for putting up a lot of good swings on the ball in the fifth and tying the game. Proud of Goggin for getting out of the fifth and Robertson coming in the game and putting up zeros. Tip my cap to the guys for putting up good at-bats in the last innings to pull out the win."
