HARRISONBURG, Va. - Guard
Jonathan Hicklin has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the James Madison men's basketball team for the 2018-19 campaign, as announced by Head Coach
Louis Rowe on Thursday morning.
Â
Hicklin joins the Dukes out of Northside Christian Academy in Charlotte, N.C., having plied his AAU trade with Team Wall in North Carolina. As a junior, Hicklin stuffed the stat sheet, averaging 17.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per game with Northside.
Â
"Jonathan is a great addition to the JMU men's basketball family," Rowe said. "He's an incredibly competitive kid, which makes him a great match for the guys we have in the program already. He constantly plays with great passion and energy and is always looking to get his teammates involved and help the flow of the offense. He can score at multiple levels, but has a great basketball IQ and is extremely unselfish."
Â
As a senior, Hicklin helped lead Northside to eight more wins than the previous season, while maintaining his individual performances with 16.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.8 steals per contest. His performance earned him one of 24 spots in the North Carolina Boys Private School All-Star Game alongside multiple McDonald's All-Americans.
Â
The Dukes,
who signed guard Deshon Parker during the fall's early signing period, return four starters and all but two letterwinners from the 2017-18 campaign, bringing back junior guard
Stuckey Mosley, a Second Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, and freshmen
Darius Banks and
Matt Lewis, who were each named to the CAA All-Rookie Team.
