SOUTHPORT, N.C. - The James Madison women's golf team closed out its 2017-18 season on Sunday afternoon, wrapping up play in seventh at the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Championships, hosted at the par-72, 6,066-yard course at The Reserve Club at St. James Plantation.
Seniors
Laura Gomez-Ruiz and
Maddisen Cox closed out their storied JMU careers in strong fashion, carding final rounds of 4-over 76 and 5-over 77, respectively. Gomez-Ruiz notched her second consecutive top-10 CAA finish in sole possession of sixth at 11-over, while Cox (+20) closed her week in a tie for 17th in the 39-player field.
As a team, the Dukes wrapped up the tournament in seventh, just two strokes behind sixth-place William & Mary on a crowded leaderboard after a final-round 318 on Sunday afternoon, which saw the competitors play their final nine holes after opening the third round with nine holes on Saturday.
Sophomores
Lauren Comegys and
Morgan Cox tied for 27th on the week after rounds of 81 and 84, while junior
Katie Turk (89) finished in 36th.
