HARRISONBURG, Va. - Forward
Devon Flowers has signed with the James Madison men's basketball team to join the team for the 2018-19 campaign, as announced by Head Coach
Louis Rowe on Tuesday morning.
Â
As a junior at The Potomac School (McLean, Va.) in 2016-17, the 6-9 Hyattsville, Md. native led the Panthers in points, rebounds and blocks as he picked up First Team All-Mid-Atlantic honors and led Potomac to the Independent School League (ISL) 'A' Conference regular-season and tournament titles.
Â
"Devon is a highly-skilled point forward," Rowe said. "He's long and athletic, while being able to shoot, pass and dribble at a high level, giving him the ability to play multiple positions for us on the floor. Devon is very competitive and is an extremely hard worker, making him a great fit for the roster and culture we've put together at James Madison."
Â
Flowers racked up 14.5 points per contest as a junior, including 12 games with 15 or more points and a pair of 30+-point performances. For his efforts, he was also named Second Team All-State by the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA), joining a 2016-17 list that saw current JMU freshmen
Zach Jacobs and
Matt Lewis honored as State Player of the Year and First Team All-State, respectively, following their senior seasons.
Â
In addition to playing for both Maryland Finest and the DC Blue Devils on the AAU circuit and earning a spot on the honor roll throughout high school while also serving as a math tutor, Flowers continued to shine as a senior this past season, earning First Team All-State honors from the VISAA and a repeated spot on the All-Mid-Atlantic Coaches Team.
Â
The Dukes, who signed
guard Deshon Parker during the fall's early signing period and
guard Jonathan Hicklin earlier this spring, return four starters and all but two letterwinners from the 2017-18 campaign, bringing back junior guard
Stuckey Mosley, a Second Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, and freshmen
Darius Banks and
Matt Lewis, who were each named to the CAA All-Rookie Team.
