HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison posted its fourth shutout in as many matches on Sunday afternoon, using a second-half goal from junior
Haley Crawford to pick up a 1-0 win over Hofstra in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action at Sentara Park.
Â
The Dukes (5-6, 2-0 CAA) pushed their winning streak to four matches, limiting CAA preseason favorite Hofstra (7-4, 1-1 CAA) to just four shots on goal on the afternoon and putting six of their nine shots on frame in an efficient offensive display.
Â
In addition to her gamewinner, Crawford joined senior
Hailey Stein and freshman
Alison Heckman with a pair of shots on the afternoon to lead the Dukes, while junior goalkeeper
Hannah McShea tallied four saves to notch her fifth shutout of the season.
Â
HOW THEY SCORED
54' | Crawford notched the gamewinner with exactly 36 minutes to play, collecting a pass in the midfield and doing the rest herself. The junior dribbled nearly 40 yards, evading a pair of defenders before ripping a left-footed shot from 20 yards out that tucked itself just inside the left post to provide the victory margin.

QUOTING COACH WALTERS
"So much credit for this win and shutout goes to these players. What an effort. They showed grit, fight and competitiveness for the full 90 minutes. Hofstra is a fantastic team and today almost had a playoff feel in September. We want to be considered a contender in the league and we knew going in that a result against Hofstra would be another step in that direction."
Â
SHUTOUT STREAK
With Sunday's win, the Dukes have posted four consecutive shutouts, marking the first time JMU has strung together four straight clean sheets since a stretch from Sept. 30 to Oct. 9 during the 2005 season.
Â
That stretch composed the majority of JMU's program record for consecutive minutes without being scored upon, which stands at 425:02. The Dukes' current scoreless streak stands at 362:00.
Â
UP NEXT
The Dukes will have a full week off this week, hitting the road next weekend for a stout road test as they travel to Boston, Mass. to take on Northeastern at 1 p.m on Sunday, Sept. 30.
Â
The bout will be for at least a share of first place in the league, as the Huskies are the only other 2-0 team after a 1-0 win over UNCW in overtime on Sunday. Northeastern will travel to Towson for a Thursday afternoon match before welcoming JMU on Sunday.
