HARRISONBURG, Va. -
Maggie Tyler, a retired Virginia Tech student-athlete who has an extensive background in media services at the collegiate level, has been named Director of Video Services with JMU Athletics.Â
"We are excited to add Maggie to our communications unit to lead our video efforts," Assistant A.D. for Communications
Kevin Warner said. "She has quickly built a wide and varied background in sports video at a young age with similar experience at Georgia Southern and video work while being a student-athlete at Virginia Tech. She is well-equipped to help us take the next step in promoting the JMU student-athlete experience through various video techniques."

In her new role, Tyler is responsible for overseeing all of the video department, with an emphasis on developing motion media content to support social media and web distribution needs.Â

"I am very excited to be back in the state of Virginia, and to begin working with the video team," Tyler said. "Everyone here is so talented, and I cannot wait to start creatively collaborating with them."

Tyler joins the Dukes from Georgia Southern University, where she most recently served as the digital media content manager at GS Athletics from August 2016 to January 2019. While at GS, she was responsible for shooting highlights, editing recaps and producing special features. She also promoted student-athletes and teams in engaging ways on social media.

From December of 2017 until recently, Tyler was the play-by-play or color analyst for Learfield Communications, ESPN3 and GS Sports Radio Network. She provided in-game content for six sport teams, including men's and women's basketball and volleyball.Â

Tyler received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Tech University in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Marketing and Popular Culture. While at Virginia Tech, Tyler was a broadcast intern. In this role, she assisted in live productions, and acted as a sideline reporter and a color commentator for Virginia Tech Athletics and the Big South Network.Â
