HARRISONBURG, Va. – Redshirt junior
Kayla Cooper-Williams had a record-shattering night as James Madison women's basketball (14-4, 6-1) defeated William & Mary (10-7, 3-3) 65-48 in the Convocation Center on Friday night.

The Dukes started the game on a 10-2 run thanks to
Jackie Benitez and
Kamiah Smalls both hitting three-pointers to increase the JMU lead. JMU added another six points in the first to end the quarter up 17-6.

The Dukes extended their lead at the start of the second, pushing the lead to 22-6. JMU held William and Mary scoreless from the 4:01 mark in the first quarter until the 4:55 mark in the second quarter.

Coming out of half William and Mary outscored the Dukes 21-18 but the Dukes were able to maintain the lead 50-36. In the third ,the Purple and Gold shot 58.3 percent from the floor, but the Tribe made all 10 shots from the charity stripe in the frame.

Kayla Cooper-Williams nearly collected a double-double scoring 9 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. In the fourth quarter, Cooper-Williams became the all-time blocks leader at JMU with 187. The Dukes closed out the victory and will now host Elon at the Convocation Center on Sunday, January 27 at 2 p.m.
