HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – James Madison volleyball had two players with 15+ kills to rout the Dukes to a three-set sweep (25-17, 25-20, 25-19) over the Hofstra Pride on Friday night in the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
With the victory, the Dukes secured the two seed in the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Championship while improving their record to 18-7 and 12-3 in CAA play. Hofstra clinched the three seed and fell to 17-10, 10-5.
The Dukes' attack was paced by freshman
Sophia Davis who recorded a career-high 19 kills on the night while accumulating a .792 hitting percentage and senior
Briley Brind'Amour followed closely behind with 17. Davis also led the Dukes on the front row with five blocks and senior
M'Kaela White added four.
Senior Setter
Sarah Martin gathered a match-high 41 assists in the victory, surpassing the 3,000 career assists milestone. She now has 3,035 and sits at fourth all-time.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Dukes took control on the first point and never trailed to win the first set, 25-17. Davis recorded seven of her 19 kills in the first set while JMU's defense blocked six Hofstra attacks in the frame.
SET 2 | Powered by a strong attack with 17 kills and a .394 hitting percentage, JMU put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-20 victory in set two. The Dukes also blocked five Pride attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | JMU scored the first point and took the third set, 25-19, to win in straight sets The Dukes notched an impressive 21 kills in the set and only committed two attack errors.
MATCH NOTES
- JMU put together a strong attacking performance, notching 52 kills.
- Davis and Brind'Amour tallied 15+ assists for the first time since playing Charleston on Oct. 25, 2019.
