QUICK HITS
- James Madison will hit the road for the first time in two weeks on Wednesday evening, traveling south but staying in the Commonwealth as the Dukes get set to take on Radford in a 7 p.m. matchup.
- On Saturday afternoon, juniors Matt Lewis and Dwight Wilson each posted double-doubles to lead five players scoring in double figures as JMU blitzed its way to a 99-89 victory over East Carolina at the Convocation Center. Junior Darius Banks (22 points), freshman Michael Christmas (18) and sophomore Deshon Parker (10) all joined the pair in double figures.
- The Dukes took a step forward in 2018-19, going 14-19 on the year, including a 6-12 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play while losing just two seniors to graduation.
- Despite the graduation of departed guard Stuckey Mosley, the Dukes reuturn three other players who averaged double-digit scoring last season in Lewis (16.4ppg) and Darius Banks (12.3) and junior forward Dwight Wilson (10.2), who also pulled down 7.8 rebounds per contest in a breakout sophomore season.
- Prior to the season, both Lewis and Banks were named to Preseason All-CAA teams, with Lewis earning a spot on the All-CAA First Team and Banks being tabbed to the Second Team heading into 2019-20.
- The Dukes were tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason poll of the league's coaches and media members, earning three first-place votes along the way in one of the closest preseason polls in league history.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
- Since taking down Big Ten opponent Northwestern on the road, Radford has dropped two consecutive games to fall to 2-4 on the year, having last played in an 80-63 loss at Monmouth back on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
- Junior Carlik Jones, a First Team All-Big South selection last season, has continued his outstanding play in 2019-20, leading the Highlanders with 20.0 points per contest on 48.3% shooting while finding time to rack up a team-high 23 assists.
- Wednesday evening's matchup will mark the 17th between the two Virginia schools, with the Dukes holding a 13-3 advantage over their fellow I-81 corridor foes, including a 5-2 lead in Radford.
- The Highlanders won the last meeting between the teams at the Dedmon Center, using a layup from Ed Polite in the closing seconds to hand JMU a 69-68 loss on Nov. 25, 2017, snapping a seven-game winning streak for the Dukes.
- In last year's matchup in Harrisonburg, James Madison scored 17 points in the final 4:15 to pull away in a 73-66 win over a Radford squad that was receiving votes in the AP Top 25. Then-sophomore Matt Lewis racked up 19 points, five boards and five assists in the win.
