HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – James Madison women's basketball completed the regular-season sweep of Hofstra with a 59-44 victory at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams started the game exchanging baskets back and forth. Behind five points from
Lexie Barrier, the Dukes (18-4, 10-1) took a 12-5 lead in the opening frame. Hofstra (7-16, 1-10) rattled off a 6-1 run to end the frame and trail just 13-11.
Logan Reynolds caused havoc upon the Pride offense swiping the ball on two straight possessions, which resulted in an 8-0 run for JMU to take a 25-15 lead. Hofstra hit its first three of the game in the last possession of the quarter as the Dukes led 25-18 at halftime.
Back-to-back threes to open the frame for JMU continued to keep the Dukes ahead of Hofstra. The Dukes shot an impressive 61% from the field and 60% from behind the arc in the frame. The Pride hit another buzzer three, but the Dukes stayed in front 45-32.
The Pride began a comeback early in the final quarter, but JMU remained in control to pick up its 10
th conference win of the season and second straight regular-season sweep of the year 59-44.
