MIAMI, Fla. – A complete performance in doubles action and three straight-set victories in singles allowed Florida International to push past James Madison Women's tennis in a 4-2 decision at the FIU Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The result dropped the Dukes back to 6-6, while the Panthers improved to 8-4.
In doubles action, a 6-0 win at No. 3 and a 6-3 victory at No. 2 gave FIU the doubles point and an early 1-0 advantage.
In singles, freshman
Amanda Nord rolled past FIU's Maria Turrillo 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 to tie the contest at one apiece.
Shortly after Nord knotted things up, FIU retook the lead with a win from Maryna Veksler at No. 1 (6-0, 6-3) over freshman
Daria Afanasyeva.
At No. 5, senior
Emma Petersen claimed her 80th career singles victory in dominating fashion, taking down Paulina Bakaite 6-0, 6-2 to even things back up at 2-2.
With the match tied, FIU regained control with straight-set victories at No. 2 (6-0, 6-2) and No. 4 (6-4, 6-4) to claim match point at 4-2.
With the match clinched, play was halted on court 3.

The Dukes will return home to the Hillside Courts this Friday March, 15th, where they will open up conference play against Colonial Athletic Association foe Towson. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
