LEWISBURG, Pa. – James Madison field hockey won its first season opener since 2017 with a 3-2 win over Bucknell.
Marina Rupinski tallied her first multi-goal game to give the Dukes their first win of 2019.

With a change to the rules, field hockey has gone to four 15-minute quarters.

Both teams battled throughout the first quarter, with JMU only getting off two shots, but JMU defense holding strong and now allowing a Bison shot to go off. Bucknell then outshot the Dukes 4-1 in the second quarter, but JMU took advantage of their shot. After not playing since September 8, 2018,
Miranda Rigg scored the first JMU goal of the season with a reverse stick shot to give JMU a 1-0 lead that extended to halftime.

Coming out of halftime, Bucknell took their first penalty corner of the game and scored off a tip-in. However,
Marina Rupinski and
Eveline Zwager broke away and pulled the goalie out to be able to redirect into an empty net for a 2-1 JMU lead. Rupinski redirected off a penalty corner from
