QUICK HITS
- James Madison returns home for the first time in three weeks looking to halt a six-game losing streak as it welcomes College of Charleston to the Convocation Center for a 6:30 p.m. matchup on CBS Sports Network.
- Last Saturday, junior Matt Lewis erupted for a season-high 33 points at the Schar Center, but the Dukes could not battle out of a first-half hole as they dropped an 82-73 decision at Elon to fall to 8-12 (1-8 CAA). Freshman Julien Wooden added 10 points, four boards and three assists, while junior Darius Banks chipped in with nine points.
- Heading into the ninth CAA matchup, junior Matt Lewis leads the charge with 18.5 points per game, while junior Darius Banks is adding 13.8 points per contest and junior Dwight Wilson is averaging a double-double at 10.3 points and 10.3 boards.
- Wilson's rebounding currently ranks third in the league as one of just three players averaging double digits, and his 53.4% clip from the field is also third-highest, while sophomore Deshon Parker is second in the CAA in assist-turnover ratio at 1.7.
- The Dukes were tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason poll of the league's coaches and media members, earning three first-place votes along the way in one of the closest preseason polls in league history.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
- After opening its league slate with five consecutive victories, College of Charleston has lost three of its last four games, including a 72-70 loss to UNCW at home on Saturday that dropped the Cougars to 12-9 (6-3 CAA) on the season.
- Senior guard Grant Riller, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year continues to drive the Cougar offense with 21.3 points per contest, the second-highest average in the league. Junior Brevin Galloway adds 11.1ppg.
SERIES HISTORY
- James Madison and Charleston will meet for the 16th time on Thursday evening, with all but one of the contests in the series coming since the Cougars joined the CAA prior to the 2013-14 campaign.
- Although the Dukes trail by a 10-5 margin in the all-time series betwen the teams, the two sides are tied at 3-3 when playing at the Convocation Center, including a 69-58 JMU victory last year on Jan. 5, 2019.
- In their meeting earlier this season, junior Dwight Wilson erupted for a 23-point, 14-rebound performance at TD Arena, but the Dukes couldn't slow down a hot-shooting College of Charleston team in an 85-69 loss on the road. The Cougars hit 13 of their 23 (56.5%) three-pointers to hold off JMU, as junior Matt Lewis racked up 15 points in the losing effort..
