HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison men's basketball team has signed a trio of guards to National Letters of Intent for the 2021-22 season, as announced by Head Coach
Mark Byington on Wednesday evening.
Â
Andrew McConnell,
Devon Savage and
Jaylen Stinson have all officially committed to play for the Dukes next season, coming to Harrisonburg from all over the east coast: Georgia, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania, respectively.
Â
Andrew McConnell | 6-1 | G
Buford, Ga. | Lanier HS
McConnell is renowned for his shooting ability and will join the Dukes after a standout career in Georgia, where he is ranked among the top 15 seniors in the talent-rich state. He enters his senior season having helped lead Lanier to a 26-6 record and a berth in the 6A state title game last year as a junior.
Â
Coach Byington's take:
"Andrew is known as one of the best shooters in the country and has range out to 26 feet. He's also much more than just that and is a really good basketball player. Andrew is not scared of big moments and plays with a chip on his shoulder."

Â
Devon Savage | 6-4 | G
Washington, D.C. | Riverdale Baptist
Savage will arrive in Harrisonburg having tested himself against some of the nation's strongest players, having played for both Riverdale Baptist and Team Takeover in his prep years.
Â
Coach Byington's take:
"Devon was our first commitment in this class and is very important for the future of our program. He is a long wing and a very good shooter. In high school, he's played against top competition in the DMV area and had great success. On the AAU circuit, he plays for one of the best programs in the country Team Takeover and he has been very impactful for them, while playing against some of the best players in the country."

Â
Jaylen Stinson | 6-0 | G
Philadelphia, Pa. | Archbishop Wood Catholic HS
Stinson also brings experience among the country's best, having led Archbishop Wood Catholic to the regular season title in the powerful Philadelphia Catholic League as a junior, while also competing with Team Final on the AAU circuit.
Â
Coach Byington's take:
"Jaylen is a culture changer and we are thrilled to have him. He is a winner, has great toughness and will do whatever the team needs to be successful. He should transition well with us, as he has already played at a high level with his AAU team, while his high school team is a top-10 team in the country."
