HIGH POINT, N.C. – The JMU baseball team (8-6) managed to strike first, but ultimately dropped the series finale, 4-2, to High Point on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Freshman
Chase DeLauter made the start for the Dukes, going four and a third innings, and had a career high tying four strikeouts.
Grayson Jones and
Brett Ayer came in and pitched three and two-thirds shutout innings.
Â
DeLauter and junior
Conor Hartigan lead the way for the Dukes' bats, both going 1-for-4 with an RBI and a double.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
JMU got on the board first in the third, when DeLauter hit a double into the right center gap to score sophomore
Nick Zona from first who reached on a fielder's choice. High Point responded by scoring twice in the home half of the third, taking a 2-1 lead.
Â
The Panthers would increase their lead to three, scoring two more runs in the fifth to make the score 4-1. JMU would get a run back in the sixth after sophomore
Kyle Novak walked and came around to score on Hartigan's double, making the score 4-2. That would be as close as the Dukes would get, as neither team would score in the final three frames to secure a High Point 4-2 victory.
