RICHMOND, Va. – Five James Madison football players, both past and present, were recognized on the Richmond Times Dispatch's High School All-Decade Football Team.
Current Dukes include redshirt senior kicker Ethan Ratke, redshirt senior receiver Scott Bracey and junior linebacker Mateo Jackson. Former student-athletes to make the list were offensive lineman Mac Patrickand linebacker John Kinney.
Ratke and Bracey were both selected First Team All-Decade, Kinney was a Second Team member and both Jackson and Patrick were honored on the Third Team.
A Third Team All-American in 2019, Ratke etched his name into the JMU record books, setting JMU single-season records with 27 field goals and 160 points last year. He also became JMU's all-time leader in both of those categories last season, as he currently sits at 58 career field goals and 319 points. His field-goal total ranks second in Colonial Athletic Association history. He was also a two-time 5A First Team All-State kicker out of Atlee High School.
Bracey transferred to JMU after spending four seasons at Duke (2016-19). He appeared in 32 games for the Blue Devils, making 10 starts in 2019. Highly touted out of Benedictine High School, Bracey was a consensus four-star prospect after being named VISAA and Richmond Times-Dispatch Offensive Player of the Year. He was also named Metro Player of the Year and was a three-time All-Metro selection.
Jackson has played in 22 career games through his first two seasons at JMU, including 15 in 2019. A graduate of Hermitage High School, Jackson was a two-time 5A All-State selection and was tabbed Metro Defensive Player of the Year in his senior season. He helped Hermitage to two region championships and finished his high school career ranking fifth all-time in tackles.
Patrick was a three-year starter at center for the Dukes, playing from 2016-19. He was a Third Team All-American a season ago and was twice named All-CAA. He was part of a JMU offense that led the country in completion percentage while also ranking second nationally on third down, scoring and first downs. Prior to JMU, he was a First Team All-State honoree his senior season and was twice named All-Metro.
Kinney spent one season with the Dukes, as he was part of the 2016 national-championship squad. He was also a two-time First Team All-State honoree and was twice named All-Metro while at Hermitage.
