ELON, N.C. – After a little over a week break, James Madison returned to action and beat Elon, 75-63 in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball action inside of the Schar Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Dukes (6-3, 2-0 CAA) struggled offensively in the first half but shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) in the second half including sinking a perfect 11-of-11 from the charity stripe to hold off any hope of a comeback from the Phoenix (4-3, 0-1 CAA).
Sophomore

Freshman
Peyton McDaniel continued her nice streak of play with 12 points and seven rebounds while freshman
Jamia Hazell, sophomore
Rayne Tucker and graduate student
Anne Diouf added eight points each.
How It Happened
Despite entering the break with a 26-23 lead, JMU could not find and offensive rhythm in the first half as the Dukes only made 10 field goals with a 27.8 percent (10-of-36) clip from the field. JMU's defense held up in the first half though, as it allowed Elon to only make six field goals but the Phoenix cashed in at the line making 11-of-13 attempts to remain close with the Dukes.
The Dukes came out firing in the third quarter, scoring 23 points while holding the Phoenix to 18 points to increase their halftime lead to eight (49-41) after three quarters. For the second time in conference action, Jefferson took over in the fourth quarter as she scored seven points on perfect shooting (2-2 FG, 3-3 FT) with two rebounds and a pair of assists to help the Dukes score a fourth-quarter season-high 26 points to hold off Elon, 75-63.
