ELON, N.C. – James Madison was unable to find a consistent offensive rhythm while Elon caught fire in the middle quarters to break away and hand the Dukes a 77-55 Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball loss on Sunday afternoon in the Schar Center.

JMU (6-4, 2-1 CAA) suffered its first conference loss after making a season-low 18 field goals (18-of-50) while the Phoenix (5-3, 1-1 CAA) shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the field to even the season series at one.

Kiki Jefferson posted a game-high 18 points, going perfect from the line (11-of-11) alongside a pair of rebounds, three assists and a trio of steals. Freshman
Peyton McDaniel followed behind with 12 points on 50 percent shooting (3-of-6) from behind the arc with a team-high six rebounds.

Evonna McGill led the way for Elon with 16 points on 7-of-7 shooting and five rebounds off the bench.

How It Happened
The Dukes began the game on fire, hopping out to a quick 7-0 lead. The Phoenix responded with a 13-2 run to take the lead. After a couple of missed buckets, JMU got back into its rhythm and ended the quarter with three made free throws from Jefferson to trail by one (19-20) heading into the second.

Elon started the quarter out on fire and never looked back for the rest of the game as the Phoenix put up 21 points in the second and 22 points in the third to outscore the Dukes 43-19 over the middle quarters and create a gap that was too much to handle.
