HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison locked up on defense in the second half to earn a 67-49 women's basketball Colonial Athletic Association win over Northeastern in the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Monday evening.
The Dukes (7-4, 3-1 CAA) struggled offensively in the first half but outscored the Huskies (2-6, 1-4 CAA) 46-23 in the second half to improve to 14-0 against Northeastern in Harrisonburg.
Sophomore
Kiki Jefferson registered her third 20-point game of the season, shooting a blistering 70 percent (7-of-10) including a perfect 3-of-3 from distance. The sophomore added seven rebounds, a career-high tying five assists, a season-high tying three steals and a block to her stat line.
Junior
Madison Green worked her way back into the starting lineup and posted an impressive performance in a season-high 14 points, knocking down three treys with three assists and two steals, both of which are season highs. Freshman
Peyton McDaniel added 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
How It Happened
JMU started out hot, opening the game on an 8-0 run but Northeastern answered with its own 8-0 run to end the quarter at 8-all. NU carried their momentum into the second to take a tight 26-21 lead at the break.
The Dukes used the break to regroup and put up 27 points on 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) in the third to regain the lead at 48-43 after three quarters. JMU used the same energy from the third quarter in the fourth as the Dukes held Northeastern to only six points in the fourth, the lowest amount an opponent has put up in a quarter to solidify the 67-49 win.
