QUICK HITS
- The James Madison Dukes will head north for their first full Colonial Athletic Association road swing this weekend, travelling to Boston for a pair of noon bouts at Northeastern on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
- The two programs currently represent the only undefeated teams in the CAA standings, though Northeastern has played six league contests, while the Dukes have played just one due to multiple postponements owing to positive CoVID-19 cases in other programs.
- Entering the weekend, the Dukes have improved to 6-4 (1-0) on the season after hitting 15 three-pointers on their way to an 81-72 victory at Towson last Saturday on the road.
- Seniors Matt Lewis and Zach Jacobs return to lead a new-look JMU squad that welcomes 10 newcomers and returns just five players from last season's 9-21 campaign that saw the Dukes go 2-16 in league play.
- Lewis is playing the best basketball of his career, having been named the USBWA National Player of the Week this past Wednesday, while leading the Dukes in scoring, rebounding and assists through the opening 10 contests.
- The senior guard is averaging 22.5 points per contest, fourth-most in Division I, climbing to third place on JMU's all-time scoring list, while newcomer guard Vado Morse is adding 12.6 ppg.
- Two weeks after his first career CAA Rookie of the Week nod, freshman Justin Amadi enters Saturday averaging 9.6 points per contest on an impressive 74.1% (40-54) percentage from the floor, to go along with 5.0 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
- Northeastern enters the weekend having won six straight to improve to 7-5 (6-0 CAA) on the season. The Huskies have not lost since entering league play, notching sweeps over Elon, Hofstra and College of Charleston already.
- Sophomore guard Tyson Walker has made a leap for Northeastern, leading the Huskies with 16.2 points per contest while adding a CAA-best 64 assists on the season. Junior swingman Shaquille Walters contributes all over the court, chipping in 10.8 points and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game through the Huskies' first 12 games.
SERIES HISTORY
- Northeastern has controlled the recent series between the two teams, having won six straight contests to extend its lead in the all-time series to 7-22, including a 3-9 advantage over the Dukes in games played in Boston.
- JMU last won in Boston on Jan. 14, 2016, when the Dukes grabbed a 75-63 victory. In last year's contest at Matthews Arena, then-junior racked up 17 points and five assists, but the Huskies used 50% shooting from the field (30-60) to take an early 26-10 lead and pull away in a 77-57 Northeastern win.
