HARRISONBURG, Va. – The James Madison men's soccer team moved three spots up in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll to No. 15 in the country, the program's highest ranking since finishing the 2018 season at No. 10, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the organization.
The Dukes are off to their best start since 2004 as they are 10-2 overall and atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings with 12 points and an undefeated 4-0 record.
As a team, the Dukes are in the top 15 nationally in multiple categories. JMU ranks fifth in shots on goal per game (7.58), tenth in shots per game (16.2), tied for tenth in shutout percentage (0.583), and tied for 14th in won-lost-tied percentage (0.833). Individually, the Dukes have a pair of players in Rodrigo Robles and Luca Erhardt who are also in the top 15 in statistical categories. Robles currently sits tied for second in assists (eight) while Erhardt ranks tied for sixth in goals (nine) and tied for 14th in points (19).
JMU's week got started with a 4-0 win at Mount St. Mary's for their seventh shutout of the season. Erhardt scored twice, with his first goal being the 50th goal of his collegiate career. He became the first Duke since CJ Sapong in 2010 to record back-to-back multi-goal matches after scoring twice against George Washington the match prior. An own goal by the Mount and then Dennis Mensah's first goal of the season provided the two additional scores.
The Dukes then returned home to Sentara Park to host William & Mary, where they came away with a 3-1 win. After going down 1-0, a goal from Tyler Clegg off of a corner kick tied the match. Erhardt then scored in his fourth consecutive match before Ethan Taylor scored the final goal to cap off the night.
Erhardt was named an honorable mention to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week for his three-goal week.
In addition to the coaches poll, the Dukes found themselves ranked 18th in the College Soccer News Top 30 Poll this week.
JMU returns to action on Saturday, October 16 as they travel to Wilmington, N.C. to take on UNCW for a 7 p.m. start. It'll be the first time the teams have faced off since their top 25 showdown during the spring season and the first time they'll face off in Wilmington since JMU defeated UNCW in the 2019 CAA Championship.
