NEWARK, De. - The James Madison field hockey team shutout the No. 20 University of Delaware 4-0 on Friday evening at the Fred P. Rullo Stadium.
The Dukes improved to 8-5 overall and 4-0 in Colonial Athletics Association play while the Blue Hens fell to 7-7 overall and 3-1 in CAA play.
JMU had four different scorers for each of the four goals. Tori Carawan started off hot for the Dukes, getting them on the board. Courtney Lynch and Eveline Zwager followed in the second quarter with goals of their own.
Samantha Grimes was the sole scorer in the second half. Meanwhile, Emily Harrison earned two assists and Cassidy Strittmatter brought one in herself.
Goalie Florien Marcussen held Delaware to zero points with four saves to keep them off the board. This is her fifth career shutout with the Dukes.
The win secured the Dukes a guaranteed spot in the 2021 CAA Championship tournament. This will be JMU's eighth consecutive appearance in the tournament.
