HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison was able to create chances and have good looking shots, but weren't able to find the back of the net as the contest resulted in a scoreless draw against American on Tuesday night at Sentara Park.
It is the Dukes' first draw since the 2020 Colonial Athletic Association title match as they stand at 10-3-1 overall, while the Eagles move to 5-4-4.
Redshirt junior Luca Erhardt led the way for JMU as he fired six shots with three on goal, with his three on goal all difficult saves including the one in the 106th minute that was saved by a fingertip. Graduate student Martin Leu recorded a career-high in minute played, logging a full 110:00 for the first time.
The Dukes controlled the tempo for the first half where they outshot the Eagles 6-2, before AU made defensive changes by dropping more on their back line and negate the offensive approach in the second half.
The American offense found their best opportunities in the second overtime period, as Zemi Rodriguez took both of his shots in the period. Rodriguez was one of two Eagles to take multiple shots, but the JMU defense held strong to get to the final buzzer with a shutout and a draw.
