NEWARK, Del. – The James Madison field hockey team inched out Northeastern 2-1 in second overtime Friday afternoon at the Fred P. Rullo Field at the conference championship semifinals.

The Dukes improved to 12-6 on the season and earned a place in the conference championship game while the Huskies fell to 7-12 and were bumped out of the tournament.

The first half was scoreless as both teams failed to find the back of the net. Goalkeeper
Florien Marcussen made four saves in the first half to keep Northeastern off the board.

Ten minutes into the second half,
Diede Remijnse tallied the first point on the board off of a penalty corner. Northeastern followed with their own goal in the fourth quarter, sending the game into overtime.Â

After an action-packed, but scoreless first overtime,
Eveline Zwager knocked the ball into the back of the net in the second overtime to send the Dukes to the championship game for the second year in a row.Â

Kara McClure, Rachel Yeager and
Caroline Cahill each had assists on the board. The Dukes had a 13-9 advantage in penalty corners and a 25-19 dominance in shots. Marcussen tied her career high for saves with a total of 11.
