James Madison will open the season at home to a crowd in the AUBC for the first time. The game is slated for Tuesday at 7 p.m. on FloSports.
The Dukes were selected to finish third in the Colonial Athletic Association, as voted on by the league's coaches in the 2021-22 preseason poll.
Junior Kiki Jefferson was named to the All-Conference First Team after last season where she averaged 16.2 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Jefferson was named to the 2022 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award Watch List while earning a spot on the Preseason All-Conference First Team.
Sophomore Peyton McDaniel was the 2021 Conference Rookie of the Year and named to the All-Conference Second Team after averaging 12.2 points per game and making 35 three-pointers last season. McDaniel was tabbed to the 2021-22 Preseason All-Conference Second Team.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS

Virginia will open its season against the Dukes after ending their 2020-21 season early due to COVID concerns.
Graduate transfer Eleah Parker was named to the 2022 Lisa Leslie Award Watch List. The annual award recognizes the nation's top center in NCAA Division I women's college basketball.
Virginia returns Amandine Toi and Carole Miller to lead the Cavaliers in the backcourt. The two guards have each appeared in 35 games for Virginia.

SERIES HISTORY

Tuesday's meeting will be the 27^th meeting between the Dukes and the Cavaliers.
Virginia holds an 16-10 lead, but JMU has a 6-5 home record advantage.
In their last meeting on Dec. 3, 2020, the Dukes won 71-67 after a dominant second quarter and holding off a fourth-quarter charge from Virginia.
