Newark, Del. – James Madison volleyball got help from all areas to sweep Delaware on Saturday afternoon after losing to the Blue Hens last Sunday, Feb. 14.
JMU's offense was led by freshman
Elizabeth Helmich with 10 kills and a .476 attacking percentage, followed by
Miëtte Veldman with nine and
Chloe Wilmoth with seven.
Caroline Dozier put up 26 assists for the team and two blocks.
Savanah Cockrill led the team on the defensive end with eight total blocks.
Karis Beasley and
Savannah Marshall were a big part of the defense as well, collecting 12 and 13 digs, respectively.
Set 1
The Dukes took an early 6-3 lead, with two kills by Helmich.
Sophia Davis supplied back-to-back kills later in the set to keep the momentum going for JMU, leading 16-10. Wilmoth closed the set with two kills to win the set for JMU, 25-17.
Set 2
The Dukes went back and forth with the Blue Hens, tying the set up multiple times.
Cameryn Jones helped get a push started with a kill, followed by an ace from Marshall. Beasley added another ace later in the set to give JMU a 21-18 lead. Veldman finished the set off with a kill to give JMU a 25-20 set win.
Set 3
James Madison kept their momentum going, taking a 10-7 lead over Delaware. Wilmoth came alive for the Dukes with a kill to put JMU up 16-12, followed by a solo block. Wilmoth then scored the last two points for the Dukes, both by kills, to push JMU to a 25-23 win and the sweep.
