HARRISONBURG, Va. – Following a shutout victory to open the 2020-21 football season, James Madison was ranked #2 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25. This was the first media poll of the season.
The Dukes (1-0) toppled Morehead State 52-0 in the season opener this past Saturday, marking the program's 28th shutout in team history. JMU out-gained MSU 556-98, which included a huge advantage in the run game, as JMU rushed for 369 yards while holding the Eagles to -6.
Four Dukes rushed for at least 60 yards and a touchdown, led by CAA Offensive Player of the Week Percy Agyei-Obese. Agyei-Obese ran for 116 yards and a touchdown. Latrele Palmerand Jawon Hamiltonboth scored twice, and Solomon Vanhorse added another score.
Two other Dukes were also honored for their Saturday performances in kicker Ethan Ratke, who was named CAA Special Teams Player of the Week, and defensive lineman Mikail Kamara, who was tabbed Rookie of the Week.
Defending champion North Dakota State (2-0) led the way in the first poll of the 2020-21 spring season. Following JMU was #3 South Dakota State (1-0), #4 Weber State and #5 Northern Iowa (0-1).
The Dukes were one of six Colonial Athletic Association programs to be ranked this week. Villanova was ranked sixth, Albany was 13th, New Hampshire was 15th, Elon (1-0) 24th and Delaware rounded out the poll at 25th. Richmond, Stony Brook and Maine also received votes.
Second-ranked JMU is back home Saturday, Feb. 27 when it hosts Robert Morris at Bridgeforth Stadium. Kickoff is set for a noon start.
