MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – James Madison cross country earned a second-place finish at the Richmond Invitational held by Richmond at Pole Green Park on Friday afternoon.
The Dukes racked up 56 points on the day while George Mason took gold with 50 points. Race host Richmond finished in third with 72 points to round out the top three.
In her first collegiate race freshman
Miranda Stanhope finished in second place with a 5k time of 17:29.8. Sophomore
Maddy Hesler ran the 5k in a personal best time of 18:32.2 to cross the finish line in 11th. Hesler's time is a 16-second improvement from her previous record.
Senior
Kayla Connelly rounded out JMU's top-three finishers as she placed 12th in 18:35.4.

"The women are really doing a great job of moving up in the first mile to where they need to be racing," head coach
Dave Rinker said. "They raced hard, we just aren't quite ready to hold it yet - but we will."

The Dukes will head to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Friday, March 5. The 6k championship race is set for 11 a.m. held at UNCW.
