HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison posted four players in double figures and stepped up on defense in the fourth quarter to earn a 67-56 Colonial Athletic Association win over Elon in women's basketball action inside of the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Dukes (9-6, 5-3 CAA) shot a season-best 50 percent (7-of-14) from deep while hitting 49 percent (24-of-49) of their total shots to go up against the Phoenix (7-6, 3-4 CAA) in the season series, 2-1.
Junior
Madison Green led the charge for the Dukes with a season- and game-high 18 points on 66.7 percent (4-of-6) shooting from three-point land. Green added two assists, a steal and a rebound to her stat line.
Sophomore
Kiki Jefferson continued her stellar play with her third double-double of the season in 14 points and a career-high tying 12 rebounds along with a season-high two blocks. Classmate
Rayne Tucker flirted with a double-double as she dropped 13 points with nine boards, a pair of assists and a steal. Freshman
Jamia Hazell added 10 points of her own.
How It Happened
JMU jumped out to a quick lead in the first but Elon would not let the gap be more than three points throughout the 10 minutes. The Dukes made their last five shots of the quarter to take a tight 16-14 lead after one.
Both teams battled back-and-forth in the middle quarters as Tucker had to make a bucket with five seconds left in the third in order to tie the game at 47-all after 30 minutes of action. In the final frame, the Dukes controlled all the momentum as JMU outscored Elon 20-8 in the quarter with the Dukes holding the Phoenix scoreless over the last 3:35 to earn a solid 67-55 win.
