HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's basketball earned its first Colonial Athletic Association weekend sweep as the Dukes defeated Elon, 67-54 on Sunday afternoon inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center.

The Dukes (10-6, 6-3 CAA) stepped up on defense in the first half as they held the Phoenix (7-7, 3-5 CAA) to 19 first-half points, which is the lowest by an opponent this season, to gain a big enough lead to earn the sweep.

Sophomore
Rayne Tucker paced the Dukes with 14 points on an efficient 7-of-10 shooting (70 percent) to go along with seven rebounds and a season- and game-high four blocks. Freshman
Jamia Hazell also chipped in 14 points, knocking down two three-pointers with five assists, tying her season high.

Kiki Jefferson played around with a double-double in 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Jefferson added four assists, one steal and a block to her stat line.

How It Happened
JMU opened the game with a three-pointer then Elon responded with a quick 6-0 run but the Dukes regained the lead at 7-6 (6:32, 1Q) and never trailed again. The Dukes finished the quarter with a solid 20-12 lead.

In the second, JMU's lockdown defense showed profusely as the Dukes only allowed seven points on 20 percent shooting (3-of-15) to take a commanding 35-19 lead that it would not let up. Â
