- No. 2 James Madison will begin its quest for its 10th Colonial Athletic Association championship on Thursday when the Dukes take on No. 7 Northeastern. The 2021 CAA Championship is held at Elon inside of the Schar Center. Tip-off on Thursday is set for 6 p.m. with the game broadcast live on FloSports. Â
- In its last contest, JMU locked up on defense to earn a 61-51 hard-fought regular-season ending victory over Drexel on Feb. 28. The win marked the 16th consecutive regular-season ending victory.
- In the game, freshman Claire Neff led the way for the Dukes as she poured in 17 points and a season-high nine rebounds, both of which were game highs. Freshman Peyton McDaniel added 11 points.Â
- On Tuesday, four players received all-conference honors: McDaniel, sophomores Kiki Jefferson and Rayne Tucker and freshman Jamia Hazell. McDaniel was named the CAA Rookie of the Year, which is JMU's second Rookie of the Year in as many seasons while also being the fourth in the past six years. Jefferson was tabbed a First Team All-CAA selection while Tucker secured a spot on the Third Team All-CAA. Hazell, alongside McDaniel, was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team.Â
- On the season, Jefferson leads the Dukes in scoring, posting 15.2 points per game (8th in CAA) in addition to grabbing a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game (6th in CAA). Hazell paces JMU with 2.5apg.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
- Northeastern's comeback fell just short as it dropped a 63-60 decision to Hofstra on March 2.Â
- Kendall Currence led the way for the Huskies as she scored a game-best 18 points with three boards.
- On the season, Stella Clark (Second Team All-CAA) leads the team dropping 14.3 points a game. Â
SERIES HISTORY
- Thursday matchup marks the 30th meeting between the Dukes and the Huskies.
- JMU holds the series advantage at 27-2 including an unblemished 2-0 record on a neutral court. Â
