Harrisonburg, Va. - After almost three weeks without a match, James Madison women's tennis showed no rust in their match against the University of Richmond, winning in convincing fashion 7-0.
The Dukes improved to a record of 3-0, 1-0 in conference play, while the Richmond Spiders dropped to 0-2 on the season.
The doubles teams came out of the gate strong, winning two of the three matches, and securing the doubles point. On court three,
Daniela Voloh and
Kylie Moulin did not mess around, outpacing Carly Cohen and Adrienne Haynes, 6-0. Voloh captured the victory in her first match of the season.
Natalia Nikolopoulou and
Alexis Franco clinched the point with a 6-1 victory against Emily Dunbar and Dessi Zlateva on court one.
Daria Afanasyeva opened singles play for the Dukes with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Emily Dunbar on court one.
Jona Roka followed up with a 6-2, 7-5 win of her own, and moving to 3-0 in her singles matches on the season.
After Roka's victory, JMU needed just one more victory to secure the match point. That came from Voloh, with a 6-4, 6-2 singles win to start her 2020-21 season.
Another standout for the Dukes in the match was Franco. Her singles match against Andrea Campodonico on court three lasted over two and half hours. After losing the first set in a tiebreaker 6(9)-7, Franco won the final two sets 6-2, 7-6(1).
Amanda Nord closed out strong for the Dukes, winning on court six 6-0, 6-0.
