HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison dominated from wire-to-wire as it took down Towson, 3-0 in Colonial Athletic Association field hockey action at the JMU Field Hockey Complex on Senior Day.
Â
The Dukes (3-1, 3-0 CAA) controlled all of the offensive momentum as they outshot the Tigers (2-4, 1-3 CAA) 23-3 while earning 16 penalty corners to Towson's four.
Â
Sophomore trio Eveline Zwager, Emily Harrison and Caroline Cahill all tallied their second goal of the season while Brandelynn Heinbaugh (3-1) recorded her second shutout of the season, only facing two shots on goal and she saved both of them.
Â
Both teams were pretty solid offensively in the opening minutes but neither team could get a good shot on goal until Zwager broke the 0-0 tie as she dribbled between multiple Towson defenders, finishing off her run with a nice chip shot over the goalie with one minute remaining in the first.
Â
In the second, the Dukes locked down on defense by not allowing Towson to cross the half field line at all. After applying constant pressure, Harrison controlled the ball and dribbled down the right line before entering the circle and chipping the ball in to give JMU a 2-0 lead heading into break.
Â
Cahill put the finishing touches on the win as she crossed two Tigers creating some open space as she took the ball into the circle and fired a shot that bounced in off the left post. Towson kept their energy up, firing two shots on goal but Heinbaugh handled both with ease to hold on for the win.
