Charles Falden | 6-3 | G
Richmond, Va. | L.C. Bird HS | Massanutten Military Academy | Winthrop
Falden arrives in Harrisonburg for his final year of eligibility after a standout career at Winthrop. This past season, the Richmond native averaged 10.1 points and 3.2 boards across just 20.8 minutes in the Eagles' substitution-heavy system. He helped lead Winthrop to the Big South title and earned Honorable Mention All-Big South honors along the way. For his career, he has hit 135 of his 336 three-point attempts - a 40.2% clip from long range - and set the Winthrop single-season program record for three-point accuracy as a sophomore with a 40-for-87 (46.0%) performance.
Coach Byington's take:
"It is great to get Charles back in Virginia, where he had a tremendous career at L.C. Byrd and Massanutten Military Academy. He has played and started for a championship team at Winthrop and has gotten better every single year. He's a strong guard who can play multiple positions and is a high-level shooter with the ability to attack the rim or use his mid-range game. He has also shown himself to be an elite defender with great toughness and leadership qualities that will greatly benefit our program."
Tyree Ihenacho | 6-4 | G
Prior Lake, Minn. | Prior Lake HS | North Dakota
Ihenacho is fresh off an outstanding freshman campaign at North Dakota, where he was named the Summit League Freshman of the Year and a finalist for the Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award, presented annually to the top freshman in Division I men's college basketball. He packed the stat sheet in his first collegiate season, averaging 8.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists across 22 games and 21 starts. Ihenacho joins the Dukes with four years of eligibility remaining.
Coach Byington's take:
"Tyree is a dynamic player that will have a great career for us. He is 6-4, very athletic and already has a great feel for the game that makes him a high-level passer and someone who will be great in ball screens for us. Tyree already excels at positionless, fast-paced basketball - he had a great start to his career at North Dakota and will be a player our fans love to watch."
Takal Molson | 6-5 | G
Buffalo, N.Y. | St. Mary's Lancaster | TAAG Academy | Canisius | Seton Hall
Molson was at Seton Hall this past season, where he played in all 27 games and averaged 5.3 points and 2.9 boards across 19.5 minutes. Prior to that, he spent two outstanding seasons at Canisius. As a freshman in 2017-18, he was named MAAC Rookie of the Year after averaging 14.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists, then raised his game as a sophomore, earning First Team All-MAAC honors after scoring in double figures in 30 of 32 games and averaging 16.9 points and 5.0 boards. Molson comes to Harrisonburg with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Coach Byington's take:
"Takal will fit perfectly in the way we play at James Madison, as he is a big guard who is an aggressive scorer. He has had tremendous success in college and was First Team All-Conference and the league's Freshman of the Year at Canisius. My favorite part of his game is his competitiveness, as he is extremely driven and wants to be one of the best players in our league as well."
Alonzo Sule | 6-7 | F
Houston, Texas | Cinco Ranch HS | Texas State
Sule has been a consistent post presence at Texas State for the last three seasons, starting all 25 contests for the Bobcats this year as they captured the Sun Belt regular season title. As a junior in 2020-21, Sule averaged 7.8 points per game and pulled down 3.2 rebounds, while averaging an assist per game from the frontcourt. Known for his athleticism and high-flying dunks, Sule has shot 54.8% from the field in his collegiate career and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Coach Byington's take:
"Alonzo was a starting post player on the team that won the regular season championship in the Sun Belt. I coached against him for two years and was always impressed with his energy, toughness and ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. He is a modern-day post player that has the ability to play on the perimeter or score in the post. He also plays with a contagious enthusiasm that is great for the culture of our program."
The Dukes, who added
incoming freshmen Andrew McConnell, Devon Savage and Jaylen Stinson to the 2021-22 roster in November, will return four starters from the 2020-21 roster that captured the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title.
