RICHMOND, Va. – Junior
Ignacio Montero of the James Madison men's golf team has been named the 2020-21 Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete presented by Premis for James Madison as announced by the Colonial Athletic Association on Wednesday.

Montero, majoring in finance, has posted a 3.32 cumulative grade point average following an outstanding fall term where he recorded a 3.943 GPA. The Madrid, Spain native is not shy of academic honors as he was named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in 2019-20 as well as earning GCAA All-America Scholar Honors in the same year.

In 2020-21, Montero continued his strong play on the course as well, posting a 73.73 scoring average on the season, third-highest on the team as the Dukes finished third at the 2021 CAA Championship. His 72.66 career scoring average at the conclusion of the 2020-21 campaign is the third-lowest average in program history.
