Humphrey Invited to USA Softball U-18 Junior Women National Team Trials

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Alissa Humphrey of James Madison softball has been invited to the 2021 USA Softball U-18 Junior Women National Team Selection Trials, as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon.

Due to the postponement of the WBSC U-18 World Cup, the WBSC extended the age eligibility to allow athlete who were eligible for the 2020 event with the opportunity to participate. With the extended age eligibility, the list includes current college freshman, high school student-athletes and athletes selected from the USA Softball High Performance Program.

Humphrey is one of 32 student-athletes to accept the invitation to the trails that will be held at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Okla. on June 22-25. The 32 student-athletes that have accepted the invitation will compete for a spot on the 2021 U-18 JWNT roster that will compete at the World Baseball Softball Confederation U-18 World Cup in Lima, Peru on Aug. 28 to Sept. 5 and at the Junior Pan American Game in Barranquilla, Columbia on Nov. 25 to Dec. 5.

The righthanded pitcher was tabbed Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year has been domination in the circle as she is 13-0 with seven shutouts and four no-hitters. Humphrey has stuck out 132 batters in 86.0 innings ranking eighth in the nation for strikeouts per seven innings (10.2). She currently holds a 1.47 ERA.

This season she has tossed a season-high of 15 strikeouts in JMU's 1-0 victory over Longwood. Humphrey was named to the Schutt Sports/NFCA DI National Freshman of the Year Top 15 list and tabbed NFCA All-Northeastern Region First Team.

At the trials, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and will be evaluated by the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team Selection Committee. Athletes who earn a spot on the 2021 USA Softball U-18 JWNT roster will look to claim a fourth-consecutive WBSC Junior Women's World Championship title, having won the previous three World Championships in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

Kyla Holas (Pasadena, Texas) will serve as Head Coach of the 2021 U-18 JWNT after leading the 2019 U-17/18 JWNT to a gold medal at the U-17 Women's Pan American Championship in Barranquilla, Columbia. Assisting Holas will be Suzy Brazney (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Lisa Navas (Tarpon Springs, Fla.).
