SPARKS, Md. – Former James Madison lacrosse All-American and current assistant coach
Haley Warden has been one of 36 players selected to the U.S. women's national team's training camp, to be held June 29 through July 1 at USA Lacrosse Headquarters.
Â
This camp comes on the heels of a tryout featuring more than 60 of the country's best lacrosse athletes during the second week of June.
Â
The upcoming camp marks the first of three training camps or competitions for the team through the end of the calendar year. The team will also compete at the Fall Classic at USA Lacrosse Headquarters (Oct. 14-17) and in the IWLCA Presidents Cup in Dallas (Nov. 18-21).
Â
"It was an amazing atmosphere," Warden said. "Seeing the fresh talent in the college players and the composure and IQ of the veterans was truly unbelievable. I was extremely honored to be playing with the best in the game. I have learned so much from the coaching staff and players in three days and cannot wait to continue training with such a knowledgeable group."
Warden, a 2018 JMU graduate, was a two-time All-American for the Dukes from 2015-18. She's the only player in Colonial Athletic Association history to win both Player of the Year (2017) and Defensive Player of the Year (2018) while helping JMU to its first national championship during her senior season in 2018.
Â
A three-time All-CAA selection, she earned First Team honors in 2017 and 2018 and Second Team laurels in 2016. She finished her career with 101 goals and 33 assists, to go with a program-record 245 draw controls and 146 ground balls, which ranks second all-time at JMU.
Â
Warden is signed to Athletes Unlimited, which will hold its inaugural season in July and August. She also previously played in the Women's Professional Lacrosse League in 2018 and 2019.
Â
Any players invited to last week's tryout are eligible for any of the training camps remaining this year, which includes rising senior goalkeeper
Molly Dougherty, who trained alongside Warden at the U.S. team's tryout.
Â
The U.S. team is building toward the World Lacrosse Women's World Championship, which will be hosted June 29 to July 9, 2022 at Towson University.
