NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former James Madison defender Tom Judge has signed a deal with Nashville SC, the team which drafted him 36th overall in this year's Major League Soccer SuperDraft, the team announced Thursday afternoon.
The deal is through 2021 with the option to extend each year through the 2024 season. Judge becomes the third active MLS player from JMU, joining CJ Sapong (Nashville SC) and Kyle Morton (Houston Dynamo FC).
"JMU men's soccer would like to congratulate Tom Judge for officially signing with Nashville SC," said head coach Paul Zazenski. "On behalf of everyone associated with our program, we wish him the best of luck moving forward as we continue to support him along his journey as an MLS soccer player."
Judge ended his JMU career on a high note, capping off his senior season with accolades and a championship. The Freehold, N.J. native helped anchor a backline that was one of the best in the nation, leading the Dukes to their third consecutive Colonial Athletic Association championship. He was named a semifinalist to the MAC Hermann Trophy, becoming the first Duke to do so, and then became the first Duke to be named a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American since 1994.
He was named to an All-CAA team every year in Harrisonburg, earning First Team honors his last two seasons after earning Third Team honors in 2018 and Second and Rookie Team honors in 2017. He earned First Team All-Atlantic Region recognition his junior and senior seasons and was named an All-American by TopDrawer Soccer and College Soccer News as well this year.
Nashville is in a four-way tie with 11 points in the Eastern Conference, currently positioned seventh with a 2-0-5 record. They are back in action tomorrow, June 18 when they take on the New York Red Bulls.
