Cahill, Mayer Selected for USA Field Hockey Camp

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Caroline Cahill of James Madison field hockey and former Duke and Student Assistant Coach Corey Mayer have been selected to attend the 2022 U.S. Women's National Development Team Selection Camp as announced by USA Field Hockey.

USA selected these athletes based on their performances at the 2021 Young Women's National Championship held a couple of weeks ago at Virginia Beach, Va. The Development Selection Camp will take place in either December 2021 or January 2022, with more information to come.

Cahill is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign as she landed on the 2020 All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team. Cahill played a crucial role in JMU's Regular Season Title run as she racked up four goals on the season with an assist for nine points. At the completion of the season, Cahill was named to the NFHCA Division I South Region Second Team.

"I'm so proud and excited for Caroline Cahill," head coach Christy Morgan said. "She is committed to being a high-performance athlete and I'm certain that she will be representing our country well!"

Mayer played for JMU from 2015-2018 as she saw action in 73 games. Mayer posted 14 goals and eight assists for the Dukes, racking up a total of 36 points. In her final season in the Purple & Gold, Mayer was invited to the NFHCA Senior Game. Following her time as a student-athlete, Mayer served as the Student Assistant Coach for the 2019 season.

"Corey's work rate and desire keeps her on this elite squad," Morgan said. "We can expect both Corey and Caroline to represent with emotion and they will be the hardest workers on the field!"

Based on their performance at the Selection Camp, these athletes are up for evaluation to be named to the 2022 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team and U.S. Women's National Development Team.

The Dukes have released their 2021 schedule highlighted by taking on six ranked opponents from last season, including welcoming Louisville to the JMU Field Hockey Complex who finished last season ranked fourth and made an appearance in the National Semifinals.
