Bush Signs Pro Contract with Charlotte of USL

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Former James Madison goalkeeper TJ Bush has signed his first professional contract with the Charlotte Independence of the USL Championship, as announced by the team Thursday morning.
"JMU men's soccer would like to congratulate TJ on his recent professional signing," head coach Paul Zazenski said. "He deserves every opportunity that comes his way as he was truly a first-class student athlete, captain, and person while wearing the JMU jersey. We wish him the best of luck down in Charlotte and we are proud of his accomplishments."
Bush finished his career in the purple and gold as one of the top goalkeepers to come through the program. During the spring season, he finished third in the country in save percentage (.882) and fifth in goals against average (.417) while posting five shutouts and 30 saves. He started off 2021 by being drafted 80th overall in the 2021 Major League Soccer SuperDraft.
The Herdon, Va. native had an accolades filled spring, earning Colonial Athletic Association Defender of the Year and Virginia Sports Information Director Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was named to the First Team for both the CAA and VaSID and was named a Third Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches and College Soccer News. United Soccer Coaches also named him a First Team All-Atlantic Region selection.
He finished his career atop the career shutout rankings in program history with 30 and tied for third in goals against average in a career at 0.78, while racking up 191 saves across 66 games.
