Anshelm Named to the 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – James Madison defender Melker Anshelm was one of 44 players named to the 2021 Men's Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List, as United Soccer Coaches announced Thursday afternoon.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the top individual honor in college soccer and is presented annually to the top male and female players in the country.
Anshelm becomes the third consecutive Duke to be named to the preseason watch list, following Manuel Ferriol in 2019 and Tom Judge in 2020-21. He also joins Chris Donovan from Drexel and Nico Molina from UNCW as student-athletes from the Colonial Athletic Association on the watch list this season.
The 2021 Preseason CAA Defensive Player of the Year, Anshelm has helped anchor a backline during his time in Harrisonburg that has been one of the best in the nation. Last season, he helped lead the Dukes to a third consecutive CAA title and they were finished third in team goals against average (.417) and save percentage (.886) in the nation.
In addition to his terrific defense, Anshelm scored a goal against UNCW and added an assist in the NCAA Second Round match against UCF. He earned All-CAA and All-State First Team honors a season ago, as well as being named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region First Team.
The Dukes begin their season tonight, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. when they host the number one team in the country and national champion, Marshall.
