LEWISBURG, Pa. – James Madison field hockey opened the 2021 season on a strong note, posting a 3-0 shutout at Bucknell on Friday afternoon at Graham Field at Holmes Stadium.
Reigning Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year
Eveline Zwager scored a game-high two goals, with both coming in the opening 8:37 of the first.
Sarah Beers capped off JMU's scoring day, notching her first career goal on a penalty corner late in the third.
Goalkeeper
Florien Marcussen earned her first clean sheet as a member of the JMU program, making one save while facing seven total shots. JMU's defense provided aid in front of the cage, as the Bison (0-1) went 0-for-5 on penalty-corner opportunities.
JMU out-shot Bucknell 14-7, including a 9-1 mark in shots on goal. Bucknell also held a slim advantage on corners, at 5-4.
